About

Michael Sonbert is a New York born novelist, musician, and educator. He's written two novels: The Never Enders and We Are Oblivion.

Sonbert’s debut novel, The Never Enders, was released by New York publishing house, Brick Tower Press in November 2008 to high praise and outstanding reader feedback. Daily Candy called The Never Enders, "a nonstop ride through a mental home." Chuck Palahniuk's official website, The Cult said, "Sonbert's voice is so authentically young…it brought to mind Bret Easton Ellis.” Charged by the System called the book "...a sledgehammer to the psyche..." while Shooting Stars Magazine said, "Sonbert writes like a young Kurt Vonnegut."

In 2011, Louisville-based publishing house Otherworld Publications, released Sonbert's second novel: We Are Oblivion. 63 Chanells said, "We Are Oblivion is a nihilistic, mind-blowing ride of violence that defies classification and demands attention. One great novel can be a fluke, two in a row demands attention." While Outside Writer's Collective said, "We Are Oblivion does that special thing the best kind of books do-it teeters between gritty, fast-paced genre fiction and intelligent, character-driven literary fiction perfectly." And Book.of.the.Moment said, "We Are Oblivion will remind you of William Burroughs or Henry Miller with it's in your face honest brutality. It's not for the weak stomached or the faint of heart... it is one crazy ride."

Aside from writing novels, Sonbert also writes music as a lead singer and lyricist. His current band, Royal Slang, is presently in the studio writing songs for a debut record. His former band, The Never Enders, released its first album, Air Raid Romance, on Indianola Records (IndianolaRecords.com) in 2008, followed by Dance Party in Hell, released by Chamberlain Records (ChamberlainRecords.com) in 2010.

Sonbert is a member of two prominent New York writer groups, The Biggs and Voxvocis, and has performed at venues such as Bowery Poetry Club, KGB Bar, and Cornelia Street Café, where he has captivated audiences with his rapid-fire, high-energy performances.
